Your Questions, Answered

  • Yes, but avoid sudden temperature changes. Let the piece come closer to room temperature before adding very hot liquids or washing in very hot water.

  • Thermal shock is when rapid temperature change causes ceramic to crack. Avoid pouring boiling water into a cold mug, or rinsing a hot piece under cold water.

  • Yes. Stop using items that are chipped or cracked, especially for food and drink, as damage can worsen and may create sharp edges.

  • Crazing is a network of fine lines that can appear in the glaze over time. It can happen naturally with ceramics due to temperature changes and everyday use. If you have any concerns about an item, please get in touch.

  • Many handmade pieces have an unglazed or sanded base to prevent sticking to kiln shelves. Lift rather than drag, and keep the underside dry on delicate surfaces.

  • Rinse soon after use. Avoid abrasive cleaners. For stubborn marks, use a gentle non-abrasive cleaner and a soft sponge. Some cutlery marks can happen on certain glazes.

  • Avoid stacking where possible. If you do stack, place a soft cloth or paper towel between pieces to reduce rubbing and chipping.

  • Not at the moment. I release small batches of ready-to-ship pieces, so the best way to hear about new work is to sign up for updates.
